Statement of Faith

The Bible

Is God’s word to mankind.  It was written by human authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  Being God’s own word it is the source of truth for living a Christian life.  Because it is God’s word, it is truth without error as originally written.  (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-32)

God

Known as God the Father, is the Creator and Ruler of the universe.  He eternally exists in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  These three, while distinct, are of one essence and are one God.  (Gen. 1:1; 26-27; Mt. 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2)

Jesus Christ

The Son of God.  Jesus lived a human life free from sin and offered His life as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross.  After three days in the grave, he rose to demonstrate His power over death.  He has returned to heaven to prepare a place for all who accept His salvation.  (Mt. 1:21-23; John 1:1-5; John 11:25-26; John 14:1-6; Rom. 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11)

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit lives in every believer of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13; Acts 2:18-39).  The Holy Spirit teaches, guides and leads us in the truth (John 14:25-26).  The Holy Spirit is in the world to convince men of their sin (John 16:7-13).  The Holy Spirit empowers us to be a witness of Christ (Acts 1:8).  We believe in all the gifts of the spirit:  wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, discernment, speaking unknown languages, and the interpretation.  One or more of these gifts are evident in every believer as God determines (1 Cor. 12:4-11).  We believe that, above all gifts, love should be a Christian’s greatest desire.  Without love all else is meaningless (1 Cor. 12:31; 1 Cor. 13:1-13; 1 Cor. 14:1).

Sin

Because mankind was created in the “image” of God sin can most easily be defined as anything in a man’s nature that does not express or is contrary to the character of God (Rom.3:23).  By his very nature God can not even look upon sin (Hab.1-13) and is so damaging to mankind that only the death of God’s Son (Jesus) can take away our sins (John 1:29).

Knowing Jesus Christ

Salvation is a gift from God to man.  Accepting the payment made by Jesus Christ in dying on the cross is the only way man can be saved from sin’s penalty. Man can never restore his fellowship with God by good works or self improvement, however our belief in Christ will be demonstrated by doing the things Christ asks of his followers.(John 14:12,21,23-24)  Fellowship with God, and eternal life, begins the moment we accept the gift of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ.  (John 14:6; Rom. 5:1; Rom. 2:8-9; Gal. 3:26; Eph. 2:8-9)

Eternal Life

God’s love for us gives hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ (John 3:16).  Jesus is preparing a home for us to live with him forever (John 14:1-3).   Man was created to live forever.  He will live apart from God because of sin (hell) or in fellowship with God (heaven) through forgiveness and salvation in Jesus Christ.  (Gen. 21:6-17; John 3:16; Rom. 6:23; Rev. 20:15)  Rev. 22:12 –

“Behold, I am coming soon!  My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done (NIV)

Greatest Commandment

We believe in the first and greatest commandment of loving God with all our hearts.  The second greatest commandment is like the first in loving our neighbors as ourselves (Matt. 22:37-40).

Greatest Mission

We believe that the most critical mission of all believers is working to expand God’s Kingdom.  Our number one job is providing opportunities for non-Christians to decide for themselves if they also want become followers of Christ.  (Luke 15:4-7; Luke 19:10; Mt. 28:19-20)

The Church

We believe that the church is not a building but the believers themselves 1 Cor. 3:16 – Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? (NLT)
